MINUTES OF THE REGULAR BLCO MEETING ON MAY 4, 2008

The meeting opened with Bill Brown’s demonstration on making a football shaped key fob. There were fifteen members and one guest present.
Allan brought a sample leather decorative stamp - he knows where he can get fifteen high quality stamps for $130.00
Tom Putinsky’s granddaughter was at the meeting and proudly showed a belt
Tom had made for her.
Jay Vannoy brought a sample of leather which had been decorated using a lazier machine. It was really neat. He knows the person who did it.
Allan showed dream catchers he had received as extra awards on his 3rd place billfold and 1st place clutch purse at the Calumet Show in April. Other items Allan brought to show included a binder, several “graduation gift” billfolds, and the clutch purse he entered in the Calumet Show. All were beautiful. There was quite a discussion about how he applies finish on leather for the different effects.
Allan had gotten a newsletter from the Pitt Pounder Guild to show us. We regularly receive the Columbine Leather Guild newsletter.
Our guild subscribes to the Leather Crafters & Saddlers Journal. Allan showed an issue. Fred had submitted information about our upcoming show and it was in the issue.

MINUTES OF THE BUSINESS PART OF THE MAY MEETING

The minutes of the April meeting were accepted as published with the following corrections:
The Weaver Auction will be held on a Wednesday and Thursday in July, instead of in April as noted on page 3 of the May Topcutter.
Allan just got a copy of the Weaver Leather Guide to Leather and a copy of an issue of the Leather Crafters and Saddler’s Journal to give away - instead of a subscription to give away as noted on page 3 of the May Topcutter.
The Treasurer’s report was accepted as read.
There were brief Show Committee Reports. The Program Committee met yesterday. The Competition Committee met just before our regular meeting today. Fred will submit information regarding our Show to the Columbus Dispatch. Carol Martin reported that she has gotten reservations from Robert Beard for Vender Booth space and banquet. The next general show meeting will be at 2:00 PM on May 18.

Report on the Calumet Show: The following people from our guild attended the show: Sandy, Vicki, Kate and her husband Chuck, David, Allan, Fred and Dee. There were 150 entries and 101 winners. It was a good show. Security was questionable. Alex Matson was the head judge. There were demonstrations throughout Saturday. There were not very many vendors, but many raffle items. The raffle took from 11:30 to just past l:30. Several of our members won raffle items. Mark had made up a bunch of C Ds about our show. They look great. The C Ds and show packets were distributed at the show.
We will need to replace our back board. Mark will get the plans to George so we can make up a new one.
Mark will get the name and address of the Chairman of the Simon Kenton University of Scouting and I will write to remind them that we want to participate next year. I have already called them.
A motion was made and seconded to renew our subscription to the Leather Crafters and Saddlers Journal. A one year subscription will cost $32.00. Our present subscription runs through the September - October 2008 issue. Motion carried.
We talked about whether we would like to try to have a joint activity with either the Pitt Pounders or the Central Illinois guild. Tom Wilhelm moved that we post phone this activity until next year. Motion carried.
Demonstrations at our meetings for the rest of the year include:
Don Martin will do a belt demonstration on June 1.
Mark will demonstrate on June 29.
Sandy will demonstrate on October 5.
(A note of interest: Jeff White makes leather garments and is now making a pair of high heeled shoes from scratch. Wow!)
Bobbie Medina brought a sample banquet table centerpiece. I started to describe it, but decided to keep it for a surprise, if you were not at the meeting. A centerpiece will be given out to someone sitting at each table.
Neil Keels moved and several seconded a motion to adjourn. Motion carried.
Respectfully Submitted,
Geraldene Pittenger
Please make these corrections to the membership list, distributed at the May meeting: Allan Scheiderer’s home phone area code is 937 instead of 917. You may add Allan’s cell phone #: 937-645-9840. L. Jay Vannoy’s e-mail address is jaykath@verizon.net
