MINUTES OF THE APRIL BLCO MEETING ON APRIL 6, 2008
Eighteen members and one guest were present at this meeting. Bill Brown (Vice President and Program Chairman) announced that Allan Scheiderer will present today’s Demonstration on the making of billfold liners.
Allan said he prefers to make his own billfold liners. It saves money to make your own, and he enjoys doing it. He showed several different patterns, different liners he has made up by using different patterns and different leathers, and also liners he has made from kits, Bill Brown also made some suggestions and Kate Luby said she likes to use pigskin leather for billfold liners.
Allan said all parts need to be cut out separately and the more of it you can do with a knife and a straightedge the better. It is difficult to cut as accurately with scissors
When all parts are cut, Allan puts a finish on the edges. He prefers using a one inch wide sponge brush rather than a dauber. He uses edge coat dye.
He glues the parts together. While it dries he wets where he is going to fold it. Members suggested folding it and putting weights on it to hold it, or can use clothes pins.
People asked how much it costs to make a liner. Allan said it depends a lot on what material you use and where and when you buy the material. Probably around $6.00. The liner kits are around $17.00.
Bill Brown charges $50.00 to $80.00 for a billfold, depending on the work involved. He puts Resoline, a sealer, over the edge finish so it won’t rub off.
SHOW & TELL
Allan brought a belt and other items to show besides the things he brought for his demonstration. Bill Brown also brought billfold liners and billfolds. L Jay Vannoy showed a tankard for the Santa Maria Project. George brought a nature tanned purse and asked for advice on what finish would be best to use on it. Suggestions were made.

Five people from our guild are planning to go to the Calumet Show. Mark found out Friday that he will probably not be able to go.
Johanna Schroer wants more information for our website. She would like a logo of our guild, the address and dates of our meetings, etc. buckeyeleathercrafrers.org is our website. We can look at pitpounders.org. I need Johanna’s e-mail address and phone number.
We will not be able to take our backdrop to the Calumet Show.
A motion was made, seconded and approved to use guild money to pay for the flowers which have been sent for Paul Troesch.
The Weaver Auction will be on Wednesday and Thursday, April 16th and 17th.
I agreed to contact all guild members who have not renewed for this year.
The Ohio State Fair will be from July 30 to August 10th this year. A paper was circulated, asking all members present to say if they can demonstrate at the Fair - also the date if they know the date. If not, then dates can be filled in later.
Allan got a Weaver Leather Guide to Leather and a subscription to the Leather
Crafters and Saddler’s Journal for the guild library. These can be checked out by members. Allan also got a copy of each to give away.
Allan picked up information from Stevenson - Paxton Sales, Inc. Carol Martin took their address and will mail them a Vendor’s Packet.
